Kendo is a way to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the Katana.

Ai_zome(seikon) : Cloth died with a deep blue indigo dye made from a plant called AI . clothes dyed with AI. Many blue kendo_gi and hakama have been dye with AI

BOKUTO : A wooden sword made in the shape of a Japanese sword from oak, loquat, or other wood.

CHIGIRI : The small iron plate that is put inside a shinai so the shinai keeps its shape and as a safety measure. It hold the four pieces of bamboo together. see appendix: Names and Standard for the parts of the shinai.

KAWA : Processed animal hide; a material used for KENDO equipment.

KENDO-GU: Equipment use in KENDO. Included are MEN, right and left KOTE, DO, and TARE. Also called BO-GU.

SASHI : Finery stiched products such as kendogi and the quilted cotton parts of BOGU. Also, the condition of being finery stiched. See TEZASHI.

SHINAI : A KENDO tool modeled after the Japanese sword and made of either bamboo. It consists of four pieces of bamboo and the following attachments:SAKIGAWA/SAKISHIN/TSURU/NAKAYUI/TSUKAGAWA/TSUBA/TSUBADOME,and CHIGIRI. APPENDIX : Names and Standards for the Parts of the SHINAI.
